Welcome to the Fresno Fencing Academy
The art and science of modern electric swordfighting came to the Central Valley a little over ten years ago, when Vladimir Ostatnigrosh and his family, (who had recently immigrated to the U.S. from the nation of Ukraine), came to Fresno and began teaching the modern Olympic sport of fencing. His work bore fruit when, in 2005, he and several others opened the FFA as a fully competitive fencing club fielding men's and women's local, regional, and national swordfighting champions in all three Olympic weapons: foil, epee, and sabre.
Housed in a small studio for the first several years, membership has grown steadily and new competitors have been trained and become skilled swordsmen and women. To facilitate the development of these individual student and adult athletes the academy recently relocated into a new, 4000 square foot studio complete with regulation electric fencing strips, changing rooms, and an athletic work-out room complete with resistance machines.
The purpose of the club is to serve the needs of all fencers at every level of ability; from new beginners to national champions, and in every age group beginning at seven years old continuing into older adulthood. To facilitate the outreach to sword enthusiasts and other potential fencers in our community, FFA has continually worked to establish relationships with various districts in Fresno and the surrounding areas to create introductory fencing programs for students and adults through recreational and school-based programs.
The club is located on the southwest corner of First and Bullard in Fresno, CA; between the ice cream store and the ballroom dancing studio. Feel free to come by and discover more about the fascinating world of electric swordplay!
